Research and Development:
Our shoot was a teleportation scene so before we started the shoot I was looking up guides on how to create a teleportation effect and what is best for it to look plausible.
Reference Images:
These are used to to get a rough idea of how the scenery will look like in the shoot and how well it will work with the project it self as sometimes it will not fit what the project needs and make it look less good.
Pre-Vis:
For this we used Maya to plan out our projects so we had a rough mock up of what the project will look like and it helps in us planning how we want the scenes to go.
Modelling:
Modelling is used for objects that could be in the background of a shot or for certain things that the characters in the project could interact with if we were not to have them there for our shoot however we did not need any models in it due to us having everything we needed there.
Lidar:
Lidar is used to for reference on a larger scale to get a reference of a city for instance in which they would most likely fly above a city in a helicopter and take shots from all over the city.
Film Scans:
Films scans are used to get footage from a film to a digital version on a computer. We did not need this as we used a digital camera.
Lighting and rendering:
Lighting and rendering is a process after the shot to correct the lighting in areas were the light does not look natural or if the shot was take time apart and the light has started to dim in which you would fix this in this process. There was no lighting or rendering in this project but I would like to do something with in the nearby future.
Texturing:
Texturing is a process you would do after modelling a object by applying an image to an object to make that object look real. We did not do any of this in our project however if we were we would use programs such as 3ds Max and photoshop.
Rigging:
Rigging is used after modelling as this is the process in which you add a skeleton to the model so you can then go onto animating the model. We did not use any of this but it is something I would like to look into.
Tracking:
Tracking is used in moving scenes to keep objects going in the correct direction other wise it will look out of place. We have used some of this in another project but not in our main VFX project.
Grading:
Grading is a technique that involves enhancing the colour in a scene to match the projects atmosphere. Such as a dull scene will use more dark colours whereas a bright scene will use more lighter colours. I have not used any of this yet but I want to look into it more.
Rotoscoping:
Rotoscoping is the process where it involves an animator drawing over the characters face shot by shot.
Elemental shoot:
Elemental shoot is where you record something such as fire or rain and used them in a projects. I am unsure whether I will do any of this now or in the future.
